Swim Lessons provide important life skills that could save a life, and will benefit you for a lifetime. All YMCA swim instructors are nationally certified and are trained in CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. The Director of Y Aquatics, David McDevitt, has over 30 years of experience teaching the art of swimming. He has taught countless beginners to swim for the first time, and trained NCAA National Champions. We use a progressive style of teaching, where your child will advance through the program at their personal rate of development. At the Y, we believe swimming is a life skill as well as great exercise for all ages. For more information, or questions, email Solaris Anderson - Swim Lesson Coordinator

Parent / Child Lessons
The YMCA offers swim lessons for babies and toddlers ages 6 - 36 months and their parents.
This water introduction program helps the parent and the child get used to the water and see the pool as fun.
Parents and children play games that introduce basic, introductory water skills such as blowing bubbles, breath control, kicking and floating. The class focuses on water orientation and encourages parents and babies to trust each other in the water.
We offers progressive swim lessons for ages 3 - 5. YMCA swim lessons are taught year round.
The YMCA has a low child-to-instructor ratio. YMCA swim instructors are trained to work with younger children. Parents are welcome to watch swim lessons from the pool deck.
IS YOUR CHILD READY? But how do you tell if your child is ready for swim lessons? Here are a few suggestions to help you decide if your preschooler is ready for swim lessons.
- Can your child separate from you?
- Can your child listen well and take turns?
- Can your child obey simple instructions?
- Does your child enjoy the water and has he/ she expressed an interest in lessons?
Adult Swim Lessons
Most adults who have not learned to swim share some fear of the water. You will not be alone, and our instructor will work towards your comfort in the water first and then encourage you as you advance through the skill progressions. Or maybe you’re a tri-athlete or lap swimmer who wants stroke refinement. This is the class for you, too! Improve your technique—improve your time! Private Swim Lessons
Benefit from one‐on‐one instruction with your private swim lesson instructor. Whether you are new to the water or just need to refine your stroke, we can help! For more information, please download our Private Swim Lesson Flyer.
