Youth & Government
Youth and Government is a national YMCA program for high school students. The program enables young people to prepare for moral and political leadership through training in the theory and practice of developing public policy.
Objectives of Youth and Government:
- Gain understanding of the formal and informal government structures
- Participate actively in the legislative and judicial process
- Become aware of societal issue
- Develop confidence in and dedication to the democratic process
- Learn participative leadership skills
- Gain communication skills
- Listen to and learn to respect varying viewpoints
- Learn accountability and respect for others’ rights
- Apply moral and ethical valuing processes to public policy making
- Gain exposure to potential career opportunities
- Gain understanding of and commitment to the development of statewide friendships
The Alamance County Community YMCA will hold an Orientation Meeting for any interested students and their parents on September 5th, 2012 at 7:00 PM. We will discuss the club’s calendar of events and answer questions from students and parents.
