"Democracy must be learned by every generation..."

WHAT IS YOUTH & GOVERNMENT?
Youth & Government is a national YMCA program for high school students. The program enables young people to prepare for moral and political leadership through training in the theory and practice of developing public policy.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF YOUTH & GOVERNMENT? 
-Gain understanding of formal government structures
-Participate actively in the legislative and judicial processes
-Become aware of societal issues/problems and their resolutions
-Develop confidence in and dedication to the democractic process
-Learn participative leadership skills 
-Gain communication skills
-Learn to listen and respect varying viewpoints on issues
-Learn the importance of accountability and respect of other's rights
-Apply moral and ethical valuing processes to public policy making
-Gain exposure to potential career opportunities
-Gain an understanding of and commitment to the development of statewide friendships
