Annual Support Campaign

2008 YMCA WeBuildPeople Campaign

What is the Annual WE BUILD PEOPLE campaign?
The We Build People Scholarship program is the Alamance County Community YMCA’s effort to raise funds for children, teens, families, adults and seniors to benefit from the life changing programs offered at the YMCA. Our mission is to serve all people, regardless of ability to pay. We want all people to be involved in the programs and services of the YMCA and grow in spirit, mind and body.

How much of the money raised in the WE BUILD PEOPLE campaign goes to helping those in need?
100% of the dollars raised in our WE BUILD PEOPLE campaign goes directly to our financial assistance program, serving those in need right here in Alamance County. Administrative costs are funded through paid memberships.

How do people qualify for financial assistance?
Financial assistance applications are available at the front desk of the YMCA. Once an application is received, it is processed and reviewed to determine the amount of assistance the applicant may qualify for. Scholarship dollars range from 30% to 90%, depending on need. All financial assistance members are offered the same YMCA programs and services as full paying members. All applications are confidential.

Which YMCA programs and services offer financial assistance?
All programs and memberships qualify for financial assistance. This includes after school and summer child care, swim lessons, teen programs, fitness classes, youth sports, older adult programs and much, much more.

Who furnishes the funds?
Many generous people in Alamance County and beyond furnish the funds needed to support the YMCA’s annual WE BUILD PEOPLE campaign. These individuals are from all walks of life. Without this support, the YMCA would not be able to offer hope and opportunity for people who otherwise could not afford to be a part of the YMCA family.

How can you help?
Here are a few ways your financial gift will make a difference in a person’s life:
  • $1200 will provide after school care for a child for one year so that a single mom can work to provide for her family.
  • $500 will provide a family with a YMCA membership where they can spend time together in a healthy environment.
  • $250 will provide five youths with an exciting season of basketball.
  • $100 will provide a child one week of summer day camp.
  • $50 will provide a child with life saving swim lessons.
  • $25 will provide an older adult water exercise classes.
